What Photos Should I Take Before Contacting a Contractor?

Take a wide view first

Photograph the full project area from more than one angle. Include the relationship to the home, driveway, yard, gate, roofline, pool, or surrounding structures so the professional has spatial context.

Then add a few closer images of the condition you want changed: cracks, peeling, drainage, fixtures, panels, equipment, surfaces, or interior damage.

Include access and constraints

If side-yard access, gates, narrow paths, stairs, slopes, landscaping, parked vehicles, or nearby structures could matter, include them. A photo of the route can be as useful as a photo of the project itself.

For electrical and roofing projects, take only safe ground-level or interior photos. Do not open panels, remove covers, climb on roofs, or handle damaged equipment.

Keep photos private and purposeful
